The Rutgers University Pinelands Field Station welcomes visitors who want to work in or around the Pine Barrens to explore the possibilities of using the station and possibly to partner with ongoing research activities.  We are located approximately 60 minutes from Philadelphia, 45 minutes from Rutgers-Camden and 70 minutes from Rutgers-New Brunswick.

Driving Directions

The Rutgers University Pinelands Field Station is located at 501 Four Mile Rd., New Lisbon, NJ in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest.

From the North

  1. From the NJ Turnpike or Interstate 295: Take Exit 7 from the Turnpike or Exit 56 from I-295 (130) and get onto Route 206 South.
  2. 15 miles south of the turnpike turn left onto Route 70.
  3. Follow Route 70 to a circle (Four Mile Circle) where Route 70 splits into Routes 70 and 72. Take the third exit along the circle, which reads New Lisbon (646).
  4. Continue for 1.1 miles; the Field Station is on the right. You’ll see a gravel turnoff and a sign that indicates Rutgers University Pinelands Field Center.

From Camden

  1. From Rutgers Camden or the Benjamin Franklin Bridge take the Admiral Wilson Blvd to Route 70.
  2. Follow Route 70 to a circle (Four Mile Circle) where Route 70 splits into Routes 70 and 72. Take the third exit along the circle, which reads New Lisbon (646).
  3. Continue for 1.1 miles; the Field Station is on the right. You’ll see a gravel turnoff and a sign that indicates Rutgers University Pinelands Field Center.

From Tuckerton

  1. Take Route 9 north to the intersection of Route 72.
  2. Turn left onto Route 72 and continue for about 26 miles to a circle (Four Mile Circle) where Route 72 meets Route 70.
  3. Take the second exit along the circle, which reads New Lisbon (646).
  4. Continue for 1.1 miles and the Field Station is on the right. You’ll see a gravel turnoff and a sign that indicates Rutgers University Pinelands Field Center.
